Tractor Driver Portraits

Steve arrives with a tractor load of people to the pumpkin patch area of Bedner's Farm in McDonald, Pa. on October 23, 2011. Steve takes families on hayrides through the farmland every weekend in October so that children can pick out pumpkins, go through mazes, slingshot pumpkins, and more.

On October 23, 2011, Steve prepares to start his tractor and head back to the greenhouse at Bedner's Farm and Greenhouse in McDonald, Pa. Steve makes round trip hayrides from the greenhouse to the pumpkin patch and back about every half hour, every weekend in October.

At Bedner's Farm and Greenhouse in McDonald, Pa. on October 23, 2011, Steve brings one of many loads of visitors on a hayride to the pumpkin patch. Steve makes sure everyone gets off and on the hayride safely and greets visitors to ensure a family friendly atmosphere at the farm.

Drenched High School Football

The Chartiers Valley and Belle Vernon varsity football teams played against each other in Bridgeville, Pa. on Sept. 30, 2011.  The Char-Valley Colts had a home field advantage and proudly made their way onto the field, fit and ready for some football. 

The Belle Vernon and Chartiers Valley high school football teams went head to head in Bridgeville, Pa. on Sept. 30, 2011.  Connor Lindsay of the Chartiers Valley Colts celebrated the first touchdown of the night. 

In Bridgeville, Pa. on Sept. 30, 2011, the high school varsity football teams from Belle Vernon and Chartiers Valley played through the cold, wind, and pouring rain.  A Belle Vernon Leopard found a break in the line and sprinted for a first down.

Environmentally Friendly Classroom

 On Sept. 30, 2011, Denny Quinn’s third grade class showed their stewardship by watering 12 small trees around Chartiers Valley Intermediate School. The trees had been planted four years ago by Quinn’s class as part of the United Nation’s Billion Tree Campaign.

 At Chartiers Valley Intermediate School on Sept. 30, 2011, Denny Quinn’s third grade class spent time learning outdoors about the trees they were watering around the school and the function of trees in the environment. Caring for the maple and pear trees has been a tradition since 2007, when Quinn’s class planted the trees for the United Nation’s Billion Tree Campaign.

Denny Quinn turned Chartiers Valley Intermediate School’s campus into an outdoor classroom on Sept. 30, 2011 to teach his students about the role that trees play in the environment. Quinn’s third grade classes have been learning about and taking care of the young trees around the school since they were first planted for the United Nation’s Billion Tree Campaign back in 2007.
